One of the famous sights in Kiev is St. Andrew's Church, built by order of Empress Catherine in honor of the Apostle Andrew. It was erected in 1754 by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. According to legend, the mountain, on which the cathedral is situated, is sacred. The Apostle Andrew has erected a cross on this mountain.
Located over the historic Kiev, the church is situated on the right bank of the Dnieper and now attracts a huge number of tourists with its rich decoration, unsurpassed icons, and, of course, architecture. The picturesque view, cobbled stone roads, the remoteness of the city business center - all this helps to feel the atmosphere of peace, serenity and grace. The young and old people start thinking on their life here; this sacred place will cause to repent and believe.
The steps, which lead to the church, make man closer to God, according to popular belief. Having entered the church, your eyes immediately turn to the dome, the iconostasis and the cathedra, striking the imagination of skillful work.
Nowadays the church is open to visitors. The divine services are held in the church up to this day and it also acts as the historical museum.
