Barrow in honor of 300 anniversary of the Union of Lublin was created in Lviv, on the place where up to XIX century there was located the High Castle. The idea of creating of such a monument belonged to the President of the Parliament of Austria-Hungary Franciszek Smolkov. The earth for the construction of the barrow was brought from different places of Poland: the earth of the field, where took place the Battle of Grünwald (Warsaw), the earth brought from Mount Golgotha.
The height of the barrow is 22 meters, it is faced with stones from the demolished walls of the castle, and the path to the viewing platform is made in the form of the small labyrinth in which there are several dead ends and loops. From the former castle there remained only a small piece of stone of the southern wall with loopholes, which served as barriers to entry into the castle.
Barrow of Union of Lublin is truly incredible and wonderful place, the walking city tour is better to finish right here. Having made the last spurt and spent 20 minutes on the rise, you will not remain indifferent to the wonderful view from this hill: Old and New Lviv - the city in full view and in good weather you will have a great opportunity to enjoy even the Carpathian Mountains. Near the observation platform you can rent binoculars from some entrepreneur from Lviv.
The park on the barrow has nothing special to wonder. The only thing is the incredible cleanness. There are no piles of garbage, on the roads there are walking mothers with baby carriages and children, the air is remarkably fresh, and the park is filled with silence and calmness.
