On the eve of celebrations to commemorate the Day of Dnepropetrovsk, on the promenade named after Lenin near the pedestrian bridge at the monastery island was installed a bench and tree of happy lovers made by local blacksmiths. This original artwork weighs more than half a ton and is the gift of city dwellers.
Opening of the monument occurred on Sept. 13, 2008. On the opening day of the Tree of happiness and Bench of lovers there was held the show of blacksmiths, which was attended by masters from Simferopol, Kiev, Poltava and Dnepropetrovsk. Starting with 10 in the morning, each of them made flowers, birds and leaves. Also, guests who were present at this occasion were invited to try their hand in this difficult craft. Couples were invited to the feast, with pleasure forged for itself a horseshoe, and various other symbols of eternal love and happiness and prosperity.
Immediately after the installation of bench of lovers and of the Tree of happiness legends appeared. One of them says that this place is endowed with magical healing properties.
Location for the composition of the group was not chosen by chance: the inhabitants of the city for many years hung locks on the bridge at the monastery island, throwing the keys to them in the waters of the Dnieper. It is believed that so the beloved unite their hearts and lives for ever. And since 2008, in Dnepropetrovsk there is another tradition: they hang a ribbon on the tree of happiness. Some residents write their wishes on them, others guessing it while attaching ribbons on tree branches.
