In 1850 a Saxon Wilhelm Krister, former weaver and gardening enthusiast, purchased a large estate in the modern Podol district of Kiev (Vetryanye Gory). He implemented some groundbreaking agricultural techniques and ordered elite varieties of seeds from abroad. Through numerous experiments, which had not always been successful, he managed to create a unique nursery-garden with fruit trees and ornamental shrubs. No Kiev gardener came close to the results that Krister had achieved.
Eventually the park was abandoned. Greenhouses were partially destroyed. In 2007 a modern residential complex “Park City” was started to be constructed in the area of Kristerova Hill. Builders have put a lot of effort into preserving of the landscape and park zone along Osipovsky street in Kiev. New black earth was added to the ground, the area of the park was increased two times, new benches were installed, and beautiful flowerbeds and young trees have been planted. Old perennial plants have been thoroughly preserved. The main attractions of Kristerova Hill are artificial ponds with swans swimming in them.
Children were given special attention while constructing the complex. In the park there is a large playground with lots of entertainment opportunities. Moreover, there are several new sports grounds. As soon as you enter the Kristerova Hill, you feel like you’re inside the world of fairy-tales with no reason to worry at all. Huge green space makes you forget the big city life and just enjoy fun, tranquility and fresh air. Kristerova Hill is a perfect place for a rest with your family.
