Charlotte is not Ukrainian cake but it is very often cooked in Ukraine.
Ingredients for Apple cake (Charlotte):
1 glass sugar
1 glass flour
1 teaspoon breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon cinnamon
vanilla sugar to taste
butter (for smearing)
How to cook Apple cake (Charlotte):
In order to make dough, beat up eggs with sugar and vanilla sugar until the batter has a homogeneous mass. Sift flour through a fine sieve. Then add an egg mass to the flour, stirring constantly, and mix it all very well. Knead the dough into a homogeneous and thin mass.
Wash and peel apples, take cores out of it and cut into fine slices.
Smear a baking form with butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Place apple slices in an even layer. Put the cooked dough over the apple slices, level it and set into a pre-heated oven. Bake for 30 – 40 minutes at a temperature of 180 °C (350 °F).
Then let the charlotte cool slightly and sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Serve it with tea.
