Istorichesky Boulevard

The first point of our route is Istorichesky (Historical) Boulevard with the Panorama "Defense of Sevastopol in 1854-1855".

How to get there: by trolleys № 1, 3, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 20 to the stop "Ushakov Square".

Green area of ​​the Istorichesky Boulevard with the white round building of the Panorama is clearly visible from the train station as well as from many other city areas. The picturesque hills stretching along the South Bay became a place of rest of the townsfolk before the Crimean War. A park Panorama was laid out there; it was named Bolshoi (Grand) Boulevard. Nowadays,  ​​the Boulevard is a kind of Green Park with many rare species of trees and shrubs. But first of all it is a complex monument that includes the world famous Panorama "Defense of Sevastopol in 1854-1855", 13 monuments and memorial signs that immortalized the heroism of the defenders of Sevastopol during the Crimean War.

Opening hours: daily 9.00 - 17.30 (May – September), 9.00 -19.00 (July – August), 9.30 - 17.30, Monday closed (October – April).

Malakhov Kurgan (Mound)

How to get there: from the Ushakov Square take a bus or a route taxi № 7, 17, 107, 112 to the stop "Malakhov Khurgan".

Malakhov Kurgan (Mound) is  a strategically important hill of the south-east of Sevastopol. It is well-known for the heroic defense of the Russian troops during the Crimean War against the British and French troops in 1854-1855 and in 1942 during the Great Patriotic War against the German invaders. There are more than 20 monuments and memorial signs on Malakhov Kurgan. Since 1963, there is an exposition devoted to the events that took place on the hill during the Crimean War and the Great Patriotic War. At the beginning of the main alleyway there is a mass grave of the Russian and French soldiers who died in the last battle at Malakhov Kurgan on August 27, 1855.

Malakhov Kurgan

The Defensive tower – a construction of the XIX century has been preserved there. On the hill there is a monument to Admiral V.A.Kornilov and arms that defended the positions of the marine batteries during two battles. In commemoration of the events of 1941-1942, a monument to the pilots of the 8th Air Force who died during the liberation of Sevastopol, was installed on the Kurgan. Nowadays, the Malakhov Mound is located in the city area and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Sevastopol.

The memorial complex "Sapun-Gora"

How to get there: from the stop "Malakhov Kurgan" take a bus № 20 or a route taxi № 107 to the Memorial Complex. To get to the stop "Malakhov Kurgan" take a trolley № 1, 7, 17.

The Sapun-Gora (Sapun Mount) is a key position on the outskirts of the city of Sevastopol, a place of fierce fighting against the Nazi invaders during the heroic defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942 and the Crimean operation in 1944. In May 1944, in the fighting for the liberation of Sevastopol by the Soviet troops the Sapun-Gora was the most fortified position in the defense of the German 17th Army.  Establishment of the memorial complex was launched in October 1944, when the engineer units of the Maritime Army installed the monuments to the soldiers of

armies who fell in the battle for Sevastopol. In the 25th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, "Eternal Flame" delivered from the Malakhov Hill was lighted by the monument. On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Sevastopol, the memorial walls were set up with the engraved names of 240 people who received the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union for the Liberation of Sevastopol, the names of 51 military units that were awarded the medals for Sevastopol, and 118 commands, which were awarded the honorary title of "Sevastopol." Exhibition of military equipment of the Great Patriotic War period was opened in 1960 and consists of two parts - Soviet and German. You can also visit the diorama "Attack of Sapun-Gora on May 7, 1944."
