Kanivsky Uspensky Cathedral is an architectural monument of the XIIth century. According to the Chronicles of Nestor, the Grand Prince Vsevolod Ol'govich founded the church of St. George. Later it was renamed to the Assumption Cathedral. The coffin with the body of Taras Shevchenko was kept there for two days. In the spring of 1972 in Uspensky Cathedral they founded Kanevsky national museum of decorative art. It is now located in the building of former brazyliansky college – the architectural monument of the XVIIIth century. The museum`s collection is represented by the rich collection of articles of folk art masters from the central regions of Ukraine.
In a quiet city park there is a tomb to the famous children's writer Arkady Gaidar, who died for this land during the Great Patriotic War. Beside it one can see the library-museum of the writer. The city Pride - Shevchenko park, was founded in 1925. In 1989 it received national status.
Ten rooms of literary-memorial museum of Taras Shevchenko collected thousand of exhibits that tell about his life and career. To the south and west of Tarasova mountain stretches the Natural Reservation park - a unique monument of history, archeology, geology and paleontology.
